Over the past five years, Equity has expanded widely and is one of the UQLS’ busiest portfolios. Equity’s focus is on getting people engaged with the Society and with law in general. The many first-year initiatives make new students feel welcome, fostering a sense of community that carries students through their time at TCB. Things like Equity ticket grants for UQLS events and the Textbook Loan Program are aimed at students who would not otherwise have the same opportunities as their fellow students.
Equity also runs Awareness events, including the Mental Health Forum, Women in the Law, and Careers in Environmental Law. 2016 saw the Wellness and Diversity Snapshot published, which high- lighted mental health issues at the Law School. The UQLS is now more determined than ever to offer the best forms of support for all TBC Law students, whether that be through sport, socialising or having some treats during SWOTVAC. Equity is an important vehicle for delivering support for law students, and the UQLS is always striving to make it better.
