For the very first time, the UQLS is proud to announce the Legal Drafting Competition, sponsored by Griffith University Legal Practice Centre.

This is a great competition for those people who "don't have time" to compete in any of the competitions, for those who want to develop their drafting skills (which is very important in practice) and for those who just want to participate.

Competitors are given a detailed set of facts outlining the client's issue. Competitors must then draft a response to the client outlining the issue, the law relating to that issue, how it applies to the client's situation and the course of action you would advise. Your response must be made in under 1500 words (including addressing, etc). Although this sounds alot like your tutorial and exam question responses: it isn't. The letter must be well set out and get the message across to the client without all of the legal jargon that would typically be used. The competition is open to all year levels. The winner will be decided by the Griffith University Legal Practice Centre.

Legal Drafting is a very important skill to develop regardless of what area of law you enter, and what better way to have a go then to participate in the new Legal Drafting Competition?
